Wire Baskets

They have charm and utility.  Form and function:  the perfect design formula...
behold, the vintage wire basket!

This vintage, locker basket is just the fit.  Hang it up or place it on a shelf.  Wire baskets store onions and potatoes in the pantry and organize crafts and office supplies.  Metal baskets go every where from bathrooms to laundry rooms.  Buy it here at my Etsy Vintage Shop and start your own organizing project.

Love this office:  wire baskets look great hung on the walls with the mix of empty frames.  Not sure why the fire extinguisher needs to be so close to the work area??

I used this green, vintage basket to hold extra toilet paper in my daughter's bathroom.  Found at Old Luckettes Store.

Lucketts Store - Fall Design House

On Friday, I traveled back up the road (for 2 1/2 hours) to now one of my favorite shopping spots, Old Lucketts Store in Leesburg, Virginia.  This weekend was their Fall Design House Event

A feast for design eyes, always.  I made sure to be there on opening day this time.  Prime picks!  This Design House has the Belgian style which has been holding strong for a few years now.  Love the pale or painted woods, the grays, the slate blues, the rustic vintage feel.

I went to my first Lucketts Design House back in March.  Similar Belgian decor, but all new furniture, rugs, hides, lamps and chandeliers, and very unique accessories and art pieces.

Every item is for sale and is take same day.  I picked up the coat rack in the back of the picture above.  It's a half coat rack, meant to go flush against a wall.  How fabulous is that??  Putting it in my foyer my daughter and I to hang (only our sweetest and most worthy) bags and raincoats.

Saw this rocking bed at High Point Market last spring.  Takes a special room and a unique client to make this purchase.  Love, love the black bar stools in the back of the room.

And this bust.. of Mozart?..  I've been into marble, plaster, and chalk busts lately.  Thought he was pretty cool, but a bit angry, or maybe just deep in thought....

And the deep, metal framed mirror.  I'd be hard pressed to not love everything at Old Lucketts Design House.

.... And that's just the Design House!  Then there's all the outside vendors....

Found these Wonder Bread "movie props"...

...after the outside vendors, there's the main Old Lucketts Store, separate from the Design House.  The Store is open daily, where the Design House is only open on scheduled weekends.

Antique Finds while out West

I've  just returned from a trip out west to Seattle and Victoria, British Columbia. I was over due for a visit to my sister's home in Port Orchard, just outside of Seattle.

Part of our time was spent antiquing.  It's always a thrill to have new hunting grounds.  I found this octagonal frame with a reproduction print of A Muse by Marcantonio Raimondi, an Italian Engraver (c. 1480 – c. 1534).

These lovely Colonial Silhouettes in birds eye maple frames were found in the same shop as the octagonal framed print on Bainbridge Island, just west of Seattle.  The labels on the back show they are from C. & A. Richards in Boston, Mass., a company that imported from Germany in the early twentieth century.  My sister and I agreed they needed to come back East.

This artichoke metal finial I found in a vintage shop in Tacoma, Washington. Not sure if it's all that old.   I love all things artichoke shaped.

So those were a few of the items I was able to fit in my suitcase on my flight home.  The rest of the finds will be arriving by mail.

After my finds in Seattle, I had the bug to continue the hunt back home.  Yesterday, I came across these wonderfully, whimsical bookends.  The shop tag read "black walnut turned bookends 1966".

It wasn't until I got them home that I realized the original label read "profile in black walnut".  And as I read the label, I suddenly saw the profile of the face.  Too cool!!!  Is it Abe Lincoln?  My google image search didn't turn up anything similar.

The original label also reads "patent pending copyright Sam Kalainov, 1966".  No google image luck there either.  Love them still.

Travel pictures....

I had such a great window view across the country.  I took this picture of snow capped mountains.  Just seeing snow in August was a first for me!  The temperatures in Seattle and Canada were in the 60's.  What a treat!!

Look closely at the cloud line and you can spot Mt. Baker.  We stayed with my nephew and his wife in Bellingham, Washington, near Mt. Baker the day before we caught the Ferry to Victoria, BC.  We were planning a drive up to Mt. Baker, but the roads were closed due to 30 feet of snow.  What???

Victoria, British Columbia.  The Empress Hotel...

Victoria's Parliament Building... and lots of horse drawn carriages.

August in Seattle and Victoria is amazing.  Getting out, walking the streets, taking in the sights, antique shopping, eating local foods...  all in cool weather.. now that's a vacation!
